Caceres, Spain, is a small, walled city. It is the destination for a group of student and staff travelers from Southfield High School.

The school’s Spain trip planned by Spanish teacher Timothy Conley and World History teacher Andrew Green has had some itinerary changes.

Initially,  21 students signed up to attend, but 11 met the payment deadline, Green said.

The trip dates are March 30 – April 10, which means the travelers will miss a week of school.

Green and Conley have organized a bowling fundraiser for Sat., Feb. 27, to help students pay for the trip. The fundraiser will be held at Roosevelt Lanes, 6701 Roosevelt Ave.,  in Allen Park, from 1 to 4 p.m. “It’s unlimited bowling, shoes, pizza and pop,” said Green. The price is  $25 for adults and $15 for students. Green said he hopes to raise $750 at the fundraiser to help students pay for their trip.

The students attending the trip are freshman Christopher Pegues II, juniors Jordan Nickerson, Skylar Rembert and Asia Holmes; and seniors Adrian Springer, Breanah Boyd, Lyric Mention, Breanna Cross, Paige O’Neal,  Jada Gaskin and Ramoni Overton.

Staff chaperones are Conley, Green, Science teacher Kimberly Wardell – Stone, and Softball Coach Lisa Butler

Instead of staying in separate homes with Spanish families, as originally planned, the travelers will be staying in a hotel in Caceres, Spain.

The total cost for the trip is  $1,700 per person, which includes $1,200 for the plane ticket and $500 for the food and lodging.

Gaskin said it will be her first trip to Europe and she looks forward to using a little Spanish when she gets there.
